The safety of our staff and our students is our number one priority

Covid Policies & Safety Protocols Screening

  • All onsite students and staff of BeaconRVA will be screened before entering the building.   All students and staff will enter through the main front doors of the building and their temperature will be checked each day.

  • Any student or staff with a temperature of 100.4 will immediately be sent home or sent to an isolated room until someone comes to pick them up.

  • Staff conducting health screenings will need to wear a mask to reduce the risk posed by the closer personal contact.

  • If a student or staff member tests positive, staff will work with the Chesterfield Health Department to contact trace and communicate with all stakeholders the next steps.

  • Home is the first point on the screening continuum. Families should identify the symptoms that students must stay at home. Families should be encouraged to self-report symptoms of illness, which could include fever, new onset of cough, etc. Self-reporting mechanisms could include calling the school, calling health-care providers, etc.

Physical Distancing and Modified Layouts

  • We will physically distance all of our student desks as much as possible.  We will only use necessary furniture to allow for greater social distancing.   Our desks will be between 3 and 6 feet apart, and there will be at least 6 feet of distance between the all staff members and students.   If all staff and students are keeping at least 6 feet of social distancing, they will not need to wear a mask.   However, when they are closer than 6 feet, they will wear a mask.   Students are encouraged to wear a mask as much as possible. All students should wear their mask as much as possible throughout the day, especially in communal spaces such as the lobby, hallway when going to the bathroom, etc.

Communal Spaces

  • We will limit communal use of shared spaces; when using, stagger use and clean and disinfect between use of groups and make sure all students wash hands or use hand sanitizer after being in these areas.

  •  Students need to bring a water bottle and any snack or lunch desired.   If a student forgets a water bottle, we will maintain an emergency supply of bottled water.

Outdoor Time

  • Students will have outdoor time.   We will maintain social distancing during this time.

  • BeaconRVA will have an outdoor tent to expand functional available space.

Staying Home when Appropriate

  • Staff and students who exhibit any flu like symptoms or who have recently had close contact with a person with COVID-19 should also stay home and monitor their health.

Hand Hygiene and Respiratory Etiquette

  • We will teach and reinforce hand-washing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, and increase monitoring to ensure adherence among students and staff.

  •  If soap and water are not readily available, hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol can be used.

Cloth Face Coverings

  • Students and staff should wear their mask as much as possible throughout the day.  Everyone is required to wear face coverings when they are not able to maintain a 6ft. distance or when in communal spaces such as the hallway, lobby, etc.

  • Students and staff should bring a mask and a back up each day.

Adequate Supplies

  • BeaconRVA will maintain an adequate supply of necessary cleaning, disinfecting, and personal protective equipment, such as masks.

Signs and Messages

  • We will post signs in highly visible locations (i.e., building entrances, restrooms, hallway) that promote everyday protective measures and describe how to stop the spread of germs, such as by properly washing hands and properly wearing a cloth face covering.

  • We will utilize all modes of communication to promote Covid safety precautions.

Cleaning and Disinfection

  • We will clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces (i.e., door handles, sink handles, desks, chairs, etc.)  as much as possible. Use of shared objects (i.e., school supplies, laptops, etc.) should be limited when possible, or cleaned between use.

  • Drinking fountains will not be used for any reason.
