Little Learners: Tuesdays, 10-11:30am

Class Description
This class is a play-based group for young learners ages 2.5-5. Through imaginative play, sensory exploration, and read alouds we help learners to increase turn taking and sharing skills, imitation skills and coordination, following a routine, accepting and asking for help, and following directions. Learners of all abilities are welcome as the class is taught by a special education teacher and behavior therapist so sign language and other supports are integrated throughout the class. Is my child ready for "Little Learners" yet? These questions can help: -Does he/she respond to his/her name when called (both looking at the speaker and coming to the speaker) - Is he/she able to play independently or next to others given a safe environment? - Can he/she communicate wants/needs to unfamiliar people? - Does he/she follow simple one step directions (for the most part, we know "no" is a fun word at this age and we are ready for that, lol!) This will be a shorter, six-week session. We do require, per VA Department of Education guidelines, that parents/ guardians stay on or near the premises (there is a lovely walking trail nearby, The Treat Shop is next door and has wonderful food, drinks, and seating, and we have a room available for parents to work in as needed). It features a combination of structured play time, open socialization with guided social skills support, and outdoor play time. Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions.
